A goal three minutes in added time by Kian Leonardi handed Swieqi United a narrow win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s in a match from the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Sirens defeated Zebbug Rangers 3-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, courtesy of Trezeguet Zammit on the half-hour, an own goal six minutes in the second half and Jean Borg two minutes from time.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Santa Lucia and Gudja United shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Filip Petkovski put Santa Lucia ahead on 13 minutes but Bjorn Buhagiar equalised five minutes from the end of the first half and an own goal on 59 minutes handed Gudja the lead. Jed Valletta levelled matters on 72 minutes.
St. Andrews registered their first win as they defeated Zurrieq 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Kurt Briffa put St. Andrews ahead on 3 minutes and although Shawn Darmanin equalised for Zurrieq on 57 minutes, Michael Johnson notched the winner one minute in added time.
Melita and Fgura lead the way with 9 points, followed by Mgarr and Sirens on 6, Gudja 5, Santa Lucia, Pieta’ Balzan, Swieqi and St. Andrews 4, Birzebbuga, Vittoriosa and Zurrieq 3, Marsa and Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -6. Melita have been awarded a 3-0 win over Swieqi United after filing a protest while Marsa and Mtarfa started the season with -2 and -6 points respectively.
