Mġarr United extended their perfect run in the Assikura Women’s League with a narrow but valuable 1-0 victory over Hibernians in the final match of the opening round.
Amber Grech proved the match-winner for Ryan Vella’s side, finding the net early on to put the Greens in front. From there, Mġarr showcased their defensive resilience, absorbing Hibernians’ pressure and preserving their slender advantage until the final whistle.
The result marks Mġarr’s fifth consecutive win of the campaign, keeping their 100% record intact. They now sit alone at the summit of the standings with 15 points, three clear of reigning champions Swieqi United, setting the stage for a much-anticipated top-of-the-table showdown next week.
For Hibernians, the defeat saw them slip into third place with nine points. The Paolites will now look to regroup quickly as the second round of fixtures gets underway.

The Owls were led by an outstanding hat-trick from Salamatu Abdulai, whose clinical finishing proved crucial in clinching the victory. Birkirkara delivered a commanding performance as they stormed to a 7-2 victory over San Ġwann. The Stripes were propelled forward by the impressive displays of Patricia Lamanna and Izabella Camilleri, each of whom found the back of the net twice. Additional goals for Birkirkara came from Haruhi Sekura, Maya Pellegrini, and Mariah Cardona, completing a comprehensive attacking display.
San Ġwann struggled to contain their opponents but managed to register two consolation goals, both scored by Morena Fanega.
