Gzira United registered a second successive win in the league phase of the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round as they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 3-1 in a match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Friday.
The Maroons now lie on the 9-point mark, four points behind sixth-placed Birkirkara and Marsaxlokk, two ahead of Zabbar and four ahead of Tarxien Rainbows and Mosta with Naxxar lying at the bottom of the table on 4 points. For Tarxien, this was the fourth successive league defeat.
Gzira managed to take the lead thanks to a Gabriel Bohrer penalty on 29 minutes with Tarxien having Rafael Tavares sent off for causing the penalty.
Andre doubled the score on 37 minutes and although Willian Salomao reduced the gap for Tarxien on 84 minutes, Andre sealed the issue with a third goal three minutes from time.
