Melita registered a fourth win in as many matches as they defeated Fgura United 3-2 in a top-of-the table clash at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
Quadri Olanshile Allionida put Melita ahead on 40 minutes and two minutes later, Karl Mohnani doubled the score. Three minutes in the second half, an own goal put them three goals ahead although Fgura reduced the gap with a goal by Timilehin Caleb Akande on 63 minutes and a Samuel Buhagiar penalty on 69 minutes.
Swieqi United came back from two goals down to beat Vittoriosa Stars 3-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Samuel Boakye put Vittoriosa ahead on 11 minutes and Ayobami Julius Babatola doubled the score on 38 minutes. Kian Leonardi reduced the gap two minutes later and eight minutes in the second half, Emmanuel Asante levelled matters. Kian Leonardi converted a penalty one minute from time to notch the winner.
Goals by Duvan Mosquera on 27 minutes and Rodolfo Soares on 51 minutes handed St. Andrews a 2-0 win over Mtarfa at the Centenary Stadium.
In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated Zurrieq 3-2. Paul Lapira put Birzebbuga ahead on 32 minutes but Brite Ihuomah equalised on 55 minutes. Goals by Alex Bruno on 72 minutes and Yusuf Abdullahi Sulaiman for minutes later handed Birzebbuga a 3-1 lead but Jonathan Monney reduced the gap ten minutes from time.
Melita lead the way with 12 points, followed by Fgura on 9, St. Andrews and Swieqi 7, Mgarr, Sirens and Birzebbuga 6, Gudja 5, Santa Lucia, Pieta’ and Balzan 4, Vittoriosa and Zurrieq 3, Marsa and Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -6. Melita have been awarded a 3-0 win over Swieqi United after filing a protest while Marsa and Mtarfa started the season with -2 and -6 points respectively.
