Santa Lucia returned to winning ways in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Sirens 5-3 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Adrian Borg put Santa Lucia ahead on 13 minutes but Thiago Nonato equalised on 17 minutes. An own goal restored the lead for Santa Lucia on 34 minutes but Hafiz Mohammed Akadom levelled matters on 43 minutes and eight minutes in the second half, an own goal handed Sirens the lead. However, Santa Lucia had other thoughts and Jean Carlos scored twice on 75 and 87 minutes with Sean Gatt adding another five minutes in added time.
Pieta’ Hotspurs registered a fine 4-1 win over Zebbug Rangers at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
James Brincat put the Hotspurs ahead on 11 minutes and Arthur Stelmach doubled the score three minutes later with the Brazilian adding another one minute from the end of the first half. Renan Sgaria Farias extended the lead five minutes in the second half but Christian Grech scored a consolation goal for Zebbug five minutes from time.
In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Chiemezie Stephen Gabriel notched a hat-trick as Balzan beat Mgarr United 4-1.
Gabriel put Balzan ahead on 6 minutes and doubled the score on 22 minutes. Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya made it 3-0 one minute in the second half and although Cristian reduced the gap for Mgarr on 64 minutes. Gabriel added another ten minutes from time.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Gudja United and Marsa earned a point each in a 1-1 draw. Atem Dor Jok put Marsa ahead after just one minute but Jamie Carbone equalised on 27 minutes.
Melita lead the way with 12 points, followed by Fgura on 9, Santa Lucia, Pieta, Balzan, St. Andrews and Swieqi 7, Mgarr, Gudja, Sirens and Birzebbuga 6, Vittoriosa and Zurrieq 3, Marsa 2, Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -6. Marsa and Mtarfa started the season with -2 and -6 points respectively.
