Birkirkara through to Top 6 despite defeat to Hamrun

Despite losing 0-2 to Hamrun Spartams at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday, Birkirkara will be playing in the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round Top 6 as the final matches from the league phase are being played this weekend. 

Thanks to the draw between Hibernians and Marsaxlokk, the Stripes managed to squeeze through as they finished sixth on 16 points, one ahead of Hibernians. 

Hamrun, on the other  hand join Valletta in second place, one point behind Floriana but the Citizens have a game in hand. 

The Spartans managed to take the lead on 12 minutes when Ryan Camenzuli hit the foot of the upright with a shot from the left and Emerson Marcelina hit home from close range. 

Hamrun doubled the score on 24 minutes thanks to a Semir Smajlagic penalty after Makoma had handled thenball inside the area
