BOV Amateur Cup: Victoria Hotspurs beat Qrendi in penalties

Lija Athletic, Msida St. Joseph, Qormi, VIctoria Hotspurs and Xghajra Tornados booked a spot in the quarter-finals of the BOV Amateur Cup as they registered wins in matches from the Round of 16 on Saturday. 

At the Sirens Stadium, Lija came from behind to beat Luqa St. Andrew’s 3-1. Sebastian Perdomo put Luqa ahead on 2 minutes but Ross McParland turned the score in Lija’s favour with goals on 57 and 62 minutes. Gabriel Bonnici sealed the issue nine minutes from time.  

Msida beat Ta’ Xbiex 3-1 after extra time at the Sirens Stadium. Kurt zammit put them ahead on 11 minutes but just before half time, Bledi Alla equalised. The match went into extra time and an own goal four minutes in the second half of extra time put Msida ahead and four minutes later, Paris Micallef made it 3-1. 

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Qormi beat Dingli Swallows 5-1. David Emmanuel Garba put Qormi ahead on 2 minutes and although Juan Tenorio equalised six minutes later, Ayrton Azzopardi made it 2-1 ln 28 minutes. Qormi increased the lead four minutes later thanks to an own goal and in the second half, Garba and Jayden Zac Borg on 66 and 78 minutes extended the lead further. 

At the Luxol Stadium, Victoria Hotspurs defeated Qrendi 5-4 on penalties following a 4-4 draw at the end of extra time. Brandon Bray out Qrendi ahead on 11 minutes and Josph Jojo Ogunnupe doubled the score on 36 minutes. Kurt Borg reduced the gap three minutes from the end of the first half and six minutes in the second half, Christian Mercieca equalised. Ogunnupe converted a penalty for Qrendi on 64 minutes but Emmanuel Mbong equalised on 75 minutes. The match went into extra time and Rondinely put the Hotspurs ahead for the first time two minutes in the second half of extra time but Gianfrnco Micallef levelled matters on 120 minutes. 

In the penalty shoot-out, Rondinely, Mbong, Mercieca, Wagner and Dylan Mercieca scored for the Hotspurs and Ogunnupe, Bray, Christian Degabriele and Kyle Tanti for Qrendi. Mikele Vella was the only one who failed to score. 

In another match at the Luxol Stadium, a goal by Richmond Baratuipre Hanson four minutes from time handed Xghajra a narrow win over San Gwann
