Xghajra Tornados handed Attard their first defeat in the BOV Amateur League I as they defeated them 3-2 in a top-bottom clash at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday.
Dylan Mifsud put Xghajra ahead on 15 minutes and although Precious Uchechukwu Nwankwo equalised on 28 minutes, Shaban Chikh Ali restored the lead. Raylon Kaylon Paisley extended the lead ten minutes from time with Nicholas Schembri reducing the gap thanks to a penalty one minute from time.
Mellieha moved just two points behind the two joint-leaders as they beat Senglea Athletic 2-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Alex Sander put Mellieha ahead on 20 minutes and Amin Louati doubled the score two minutes from time with Jack Zammit scoring a consolation goal nine minutes in added time.
Qormi registered a most comfortable 5-0 win over Lija Athletic at the Sirens Stadium thanks to goals by Dion Fava on 16 minutes, David Emmanuel Garba on 45 and 90 minutes, Innocent John Awori on 46 and 64 minutes.
Goals by Ferdinando Apap on 41 minuutes and Rondinely on 81 minutes handed Victoria Hotspurs a 2-0 win over Qrendi at the Luxol Stadium while a goal by Matteo Vella six minutes in the second half handed San Gwann a narrow win over Kirkop United at the Sirens Stadium.
Attard and Mqabba share the top spot with 12 points, followed by Mellieha on 10, Qormi 9, Qrendi 8, San Gwann Zejtun and Victoria 7, Kirkop 6, Senglea, Xghajra and Luqa 4, Pembroke and Lija 2.
