Melita defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 3-1 in the big match from the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Owen Magro put Pieta’ ahead on 8 minutes but Kurt Bondin equalised two minutes later and Quadri Olanshile Allionida made it 2-1 for Melita on the half-hour. Jesus Yepez extended the lead five minutes from the end of the first half.
Hafiz Mohammed Akadom and Thiago Nonato scored two goals each as Sirens defeated St. Andrews 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium. Akadom put the St. Paul’s Bay side ahead on 37 minutes and doubled the score six minutes in the second half. Thiago Nonato converted a penalty six minutes later, adding another on 70 minutes.
Balzan defeated Mtarfa 4-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Stephen Gabriel Chiemezie put Balzan ahead on 4 minutes and Jake Grech doubled the score six minutes from the end of the first half but in added time, before the end of the first half, Samir Arab made it 3-0. One minute in added time, Diego scored a fourth goal for Andrew Cohen’s side.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Fgura United defeated Vittoriosa Stars 3-2. Fred Kessie put Vittoriosa ahead on 16 minutes but an own goal restored equilibrium on 32 minutes. Alan Abdelrahman handed Fgura the lead on 68 minutes and although Adrian Caruana leveller matters on 84 minutes, Andrew Xuereb notched the winner for Fgura one minute in added time.
Melita and Balzan lead the way with 16 points, followed by Birzebbuga and Fgura on 15 Pieta’, Mgarr, Sirens and Swieqi on 13, St. Andrews 10, Santa Lucia 8, Gudja 7, Vittoriosa and Zurrieq 6, Marsa 3, Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -6.
