Joint-leaders Balzan and Melita registered matches in two of the four matches from the BOV Challenge League on Wednesday.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Balzan defeated Fgura United 2-1. Gabriel Santos put Balzan ahead on 23 minutes and although Andrew Xuereb equalised on 53 minutes, Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya converted a penalty five minutes from time to hand Balzan the three points.
Melita defeated Mgarr United 3-1 in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Quadri Olanshile Allionida converted a penalty after just five minutes. Jurgen Debono equalised on 25 minutes. However, Jesus Yepez scored twice on 43 and 79 minutes for Melita.
Marsa defeated Swieqi United 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by Gabriel Diego Farrugia after just one minute and Gianluca Bugeja on 73 minutes. Daniel Agius scored the only goal for Swieqi on 44 minutes.
St. Andrews registered a fine 3-1 win over Pieta’ Hotspurs in another match at the Centenary Stadium. Mattia Galliano put the Saints ahead on 28 minutes but Emmanuel Bio equalised on 34 minutes. Duvan Mosquera Torres made it 2-1 six minutes in the second half and Galliano added another on 58 minutes.
Melita and Balzan lead the way with 19 points, followed by Birzebbuga and Fgura on 15, Pieta’, Mgarr, Swieqi and St. Andrews 13, Gudja 10, Zurrieq on 9, Santa Lucia 8, Marsa 6, Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -6.
