Birzebbuga St. Peter’s kept the pace with joint-leaders Balzan and Melita as they defeated Sirens 2-1 in a match from the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday.
Leo Agius put Birzebbuga ahead on 23 minutes and Paul Lapira doubled the score on 69 minutes. Jean Borg reduced the gap on 72 minutes.
Mtarfa, on the other hand, registered their first win as they beat Zebbug Rangers 4-1. Tristen Sultana put Mtarfa ahead on 7 minutes. Daren Falzon equalised on 24 minutes but Kieran Grech restored the lead just before the end of the first half. Francisco Arriagada made it 3-1 on 56 minutes and Ognjen Ilic added another nine minutes from time.
Melita and Balzan lead the way with 19 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 18, Fgura 15, Pieta’, Mgarr, Swieqi and St. Andrews 13, Gudja 10, Zurrieq on 9, Santa Lucia 8, Marsa 6, Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -3.
