Balzan took sole leadership in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Zebbug Rangers 4-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Stephen Gabriel Chiemezie notched a hat-trick with goals on 2, 12 and 62 minutes and Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya added another on 65 minutes.
At the Centenary Stadium, an Alex Bruno penalty on 28 minutes handed Birzebbuga St. Peter’s a narrow win over Marsa while in another match, Fgura United defeated Mtarfa 8-0 thanks to goals by Timilehin Caleb Akande on 7 and 40 minutes, Dylan Caruana on 27, 64 and 69 minutes, Abdulbasit Kolawole Shittu on 88 minutes, an own goal on 89 minutes and Isaiah Micallef on 91 minutes.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Sirens and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Jan Tanti put Swieqi ahead four minutes in the second half but Thiago Nonato converted a penalty six minutes from time.
Balzan lead the way with 22 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 21, Melita 19, Fgura 18, St. Andrews 16, Sirens, Pieta’, Mgarr and Swieqi 14, Gudja 13, Santa Lucia 11, Zurrieq 9, Marsa and Vittoriosa 6, Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -3.
