Hamrun Spartans hope to end their commitments on a positive note as they face Shamrock Rovers

Hamrun Spartans will be hoping to end their UEFA Conference League commitments on a positive note as they face Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin in match day 6 of the league phase on Thursday, kick-off at 21:00.

Just two points separate the two teams in the table and both sides stand no chance of qualifying for the play-offs with the Spartans lying in 32nd place on three points and Shamrock Rovers 35th on 1 point.

Throughout their campaign, Shamrock Rovers lost 4-1 to Sparta Prague away from home, 0-2 to Celje at home and after managing to hold AEK Athens in a 1-1 draw away from home, they lost 1-2 to Shakhtar Donetsk at home and 3-1 to Breidablik away from home.

The Spartans, on the other hand, suffered two 0-1 defeats in the first two outings – to Jagiellonia away from home and Lausanne-Sport at home, 3-0 to Samsunspor away from home and following a 3-1 win over Lincoln Red Imps, they lost 0-2 to Shakhtar Donetsk at home.

Last season, Shamrock Rovers qualified for the league stage of the UEFA Conference League finishing tenth with 11 points from six matches to reach the knock-out stage where they were beaten 5-4 on penalties by Molde following a 1-1 aggregate score. This year, they entered the UEFA Conference League in the second qualifying round, eliminating St. Joseph’s of Gibraltar, FC Ballkani of Kosovo and Santa Clara of Portugal.

In 2022, they met Hibernians in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, winning 3-0 at home, the second leg ending in a goalless draw.

Shamrock Rovers just won the 2025 Premier Division in Ireland, obtaining a total of 66 points from 36 matches, finishing three points ahead of runners-up Derry City.
