Birzebbuga St. Peter’s are the new leaders of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Melita 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Leo Agius put the Saints ahead on 4 minutes and Yusuf Abdullahi Sulaiman doubled the score on 66 minutes.
St. Andrews joined Melita in fourth place thanks to a 2-1 win over Marsa at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. David Machado put Marsa ahead on 78 minutes but St. Andrews equalised a minute later thanks to a goal by Caua a minute later with Duvan Mosquera notching the winner three minutes in added time.
In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Swieqi United beat Pieta’ Hotspurs 3-1. Kian Leonardi put Swieqi ahead on 33 minutes, Matthew Debattista doubled the score five minutes in the second half and Leonardi made it 3-0 on 74 minutes thanks to a penalty. Emmanuel Bio pulled one back three minutes from time.
On the other hand, Sirens defeated Mgarr United by the odd goal in five at the Centenary Stadium. Thiago Nonato put Sirens ahead on 9 minutes and Trezeguet Zammit doubled the score on 16 minutes. Jurgen Debono reduced the gap on 62 minutes but Hafiz Mohammed Akadom restored the two-goal lead on 72 minutes. Cristhyan scored a second goal for Mgarr eight minutes from time.
Birzebbuga lead the way with 24 points, followed by Balzan on 23, Fgura 21, Melita and St. Andrews 19, Sirens and Swieqi 17, Gudja 16, Mgarr and Pieta’ 14, Santa Lucia and Zurrieq 12, Vittoriosa 9, Marsa 6, Zebbug 1 and Mtarfa -3.
