Sliema Wanderers and Marsaxlokk earned a point each in a goalless draw in a match from the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round Top 6 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Thursday.
The Wanderers, led by assistant coach Noel Turner, following the termination of coach Paul Zammit’s contract by mutual consent on Monday, therefore, missed two important points in their bid to stay in the run for at least the second place in the table at the end of the Opening Round.
Shots at goal were few and far between with Marsaxlokk creating the better chances throughout the first half, in particular with Marcelo Santos, but late in the game, Sliema almost notched the winner through Vito Plut but his effort was cleared off the goal line by Enrico Pepe.
