Hamrun Spartans won the YoHealth Malta Premier Opening Round as they defeated Sliema Wanderers 1-0 in a match from the Top 6 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Saturday.
Since Floriana were held in a draw by Valletta, the Spartans leapfrogged the Greens to first place with the Wanderers ending their Opening Round commitments in fourth place.
Hamrun scored the all-important goal on 29 minutes thanks to new signing Damir Ceter who controlled the ball inside the area and rounded a defender before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Rashed Al Tumi.
