Draws for preliminary rounds of BOV Challenge Cup held on Thursday

The draws for the preliminary rounds of the BOV Challenge Cup were held on Thursday 15th January at Centenary Hall, with the competition set to get underway in the coming days.

This season, the BOV Challenge Cup will contain a total of 23 clubs, as the BOV Challenge League sides will also be joined by clubs from the Gozo Football League First Division, namely Kercem Ajax FC, Qala Saints FC, Ghajnsielem FC, Nadur Youngsters FC, SK Victoria Wanderers FC, Xaghra United, and Xewkija Tigers FC.

This is being done as part of a partnership with VisitGozo, allowing the football community across the Maltese Islands to unite.

The competition will start with the preliminary rounds, during which the 16 BOV Challenge League clubs will face off in a round to be trimmed down to eight. This will be followed by another knockout to determine the four teams from the division to make it into the Quarter-Finals of the BOV Challenge Cup. Six Gozitan clubs will be drawn into three ties with the winner qualifying for the next round, while the club not drawn will automatically qualify to the Quarter-Finals.

Following that, there will be an open draw for the Quarter-Finals, together with the Semi-Finals, setting the stage for the Final.

The draw, held by Malta FA Match Operations Manager Stewart Said and BOV Chief Operations Officer Ernest Agius, presented a number of intriguing ties, as the teams battle it out for the opportunity to lift the BOV Challenge Cup.
