BOV Challenge League: Balzan move top

Balzan are the new leaders of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated St. Andrews 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday. 

Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya put Balzan ahead on 53 minutes and the same player went on to double the score on 87 minutes.

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s were held in a 1-1 draw by Vittoriosa Stars in another match at the Centenary Stadium. Paul Lapira put Birzebbuga ahead on 23 minutes but an own goal deep in stoppage time denied the Saints the three points. 

Melita defeated Zebbug Rangers 4-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Eric Mensah put Melita ahead on 19 minutes. Karl Mohnani doubled the score on 56 minutes and although Lydon Sammut reduced the gap on 59 minutes, Jesus Yepez and Benjamin Cassar scored in added time to seal the issue. 

On the other hand, a goal by Cesar Paiber two minutes from time handed Gudja United a narrow win over Sirens at the Centenary Stadium.

Balzan lead the way with 29 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 28, Melita 25, Fgura 22, Sirens and Gudja 20, St. Andrews 19, Mgarr and Swieqi 17, Pieta’ 14, Santa Lucia and Zurrieq 13, Vittoriosa 10, Marsa 6, Zebbug 2 and Mtarfa -2.
