BOV Challenge Cup: Marsa, Mgarr and Vittoriosa through to Round 2

Marsa, Mgarr United and Vittoriosa Stars joined Birzebbuga St. Peter’s, Gudja United, Melita, Pieta’ Hotspurs and Swieqi United in Round 2 of the BOV Challenge Cup after claiming wins in Round 1 on Sunday.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Marsa came from behind to beat Santa Lucia 2-1. Filip Petkovski put Santa Lucia ahead just before the end of the first half but Zeron Azzopardi equalised on 65 minutes and seven minutes later, Davi Machado made it 2-1.

Mgarr United beat Mtarfa 5-0 in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium thanks to goals by Joseph Paul Zammit on 32 minutes, Ndoye Abdou on 58 minutes, Matthew Mifsud on 63 minutes, Abdou once again on 68 minutes and Wisdom Osaretin Igiebor on 70 minutes.

On the other hand, Vittoriosa Stars defeated Zebbug Rangers 4-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Blessing Brafo scored twice on 69 and 72 minutes to put Vittoriosa two goals ahead. Gaetano Gesualdi reduced the gap on 76 minutes but Renan Sgaria restored the two-goal lead on 81 minutes and Samuel Boakye sealed the issue with another goal on 90 minutes.

In Round 2, Swieqi United face Pieta’ Hotspurs, Mgarr United take on Melita, Marsa face Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Gudja United take on Vittoriosa Stars. The winners would join four Gozitan clubs in the quarter-finals.
