Meridianbet FA Trophy: Hamrun, Naxxar and Zurrieq through to quarter-finals

Hamrun Spartans, Naxxar Lions and Zurrieq were the first three teams to reach the quarter-finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy as the Round of 16 got underway on Tuesday. 

At the Centenary Stadium, Hamrun Spartans defeated Fgura United 5-0. 

Danilo Bulevardi put the Spartans ahead on six minutes.  Shaisen Attard doubled the score six minutes in the second half and went on to male it 3-0 on 64 minutes. Jonny extended the lead on 78 minutes and Damir Ceter added another two minutes in added time. 

The Spartans will be facing Tarxien Rainbows or Valletta in the next round. 

Naxxar Lions beat Swieqi United 4-2 in another match at the Centenary Stadium.

Louis Pahama put Naxxar ahead on 6 minutes and Vinicius Baiana doubled the score on 33 minutes. One minute in the second half, Joao Victor made it 3-0 and five minutes later, Joao Moura converted a penalty. Swieqi reduced the gap with two late goals thanks to Salam Kojo Mawuena on 87 minutes and Kojo Okle on 89 minutes. 

The Lions will be facing Zurrieq in the quarter finals. 

In fact, at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zurrieq defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 3-0 in a clash between two BOV Challenge League sides. 

Jonathan Monney opened the score on 19 minutes and converted a penalty six minutes later.  Twelve minutes from time, Gianluca Zammit sealed the issue with a third goal. 

The quarter finals are scheduled for March 3 and 4 and the semi finals for April 4. 

The final will be played on May 24
