Second-placed Birzebbuga St. Peter’s suffered a second successive defeat in the BOV Challenge League as they lost 0-1 to Santa Lucia at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
Jake Cordina scored the all-important goal on 79 minutes.
A goal by Thiago Nonato on 9 minutes handed Sirens a narrow win over Zurrieq at the Centenary Stadium.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Zebbug Rangers beat St. Andrews 2-1. Olalekan Qudus Opajobi put Zebbug ahead on 66 minutes. Caua equalised two minutes later as he converted a penalty but three minutes in added time, Isaac Joseph Chetcuti notched the winner.
On the other hand, Fgura United beat Mgarr United 4-2 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Lee Pisani put Fgura ahead on 34 minutes and Alan Abdel Rahman doubled the score on 53 minutes. Dylan Caruana made it 3-0 on 62 minutes. Mgarr reduced the gap with goals by Terence Vella on 85 minutes and Wisdom Osaretin Igiebor on 92 minutes but Abdulbasit Kolawole Shittu made it 4-2 on 95 minutes.
Balzan lead the way with 32 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 28, Melita and Sirens 26, Fgura 25, Swieqi 23, Mgarr and Gudja 21, St. Andrews 20, Santa Lucia and Pieta’ 18, Zurrieq 14, Vittoriosa 11, Zebbug 8, Marsa 7 and Mtarfa -2.
