Leaders Kalkara United were held in a goalless draw by Ta’ Xbiex in a match from the BOV Amateur League II at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday.
Kalkara lie seven points clear ahead of second-placed Msida St. Joseph who came from behind to beat Marsaskala 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Jake Psaiala put Marsaskala ahead on 38 minutes but Taiwo David Akindele equalised on 73 minutes and Jayden Borg notched the winner five minutes in added time.
Mdina Knights also turned defeat into victory, beating Ghaxaq 5-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Rui Zammit put Ghaxaq ahead on 3 minutes but Giovanni Galea scored twice on 22 and 39 minutes. Jamie Lee Micallef extended the lead three minutes in the second half with Galea scoring another two goals – a goal on the 54th and a penalty on the 69th.
Rabat Ajax beat Gharghur 2-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to goals by Jamie Camilleri on 43 minutes and Victor Ifenayi Mbata on 59 minutes.
St. George’s, on the other hand, defeated Sta. Venera Lightnings 3-1 in another match at the Charles Abela Stadium. Kayode Victor Olowoyo scored twice on 3 and 19 minutes and Jean Luke Polidano made it 3-0 on 28 minutes. Yuto Kato pulled one back for the Lightnings on 92 minutes.
Kalkara lead the way with 37 points, followed by Msida on 30, Dingli 28, Ta’ Xbiex 25, Mdina 23, Rabat 22, Siggiewi 20, St. George’s 18, Marsaskala and Gharghur 9, Ghaxaq 8 and Sta. Venera 6.
