Taylon was the hero for St. Andrews as they defeated leaders Balzan 4-1 in a match from the BOV Challenge League Top 8 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Taylon scored on 13 and 33 minutes to put the Saints two goals ahead, adding another on 63 minutes. Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya converted a penalty for Balzan on 69 minutes but Caua made it 4-1 three minutes from time.
Melita joined Balzan on top thanks to a 2-0 win over Sirens at the Centenary Stadium thanks to goals by Zak Grech on 19 minutes and Jesus Yepez on 61 minutes.
Birzebbuga St. Peter’s moved one point behind the two leaders as they beat Fgura United 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Alex Bruno converted a penalty after just two minutes and Duvan Mosquera doubled the score on 23 minutes. Leo Aguis extended the lead two minutes in the second half with Samuel Buhagiar reducing the gap three minutes in added time.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Swieqi United defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 3-1. Isaac Davey put Swieqi ahead on 14 minutes and Kian Leonardi converted a penalty on 45 minutes. Isaac Davey made it 3-0 on 70 minutes with Gabriel Nazareno Mannino pulling one back on 74 minutes.
In the Top 8, Balzan and Melita lead the way with 35 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 34, Swieqi 32, Sirens 29, St. Andrews 26, Fgura 25 and Pieta’ 24.
