Gzira United and Birkirkara secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy after they emerged as winners in the last two matches from the Round of 16 on Wednesday.
At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Gzira defeated Hibernians 3-2.
The Maroons took the lead thanks to an own goal on 25 minutes and Andre doubled the score on 37 minutes. Maxuell Samurai extended the lead on 47 minutes but Silas Alfred Hammanjoda reduced the gap on 48 minutes with Cleiton scoring a second goal for the Paolites ten minutes from time.
In the quarter-finals, Gzira will be facing Mosta.
On the other hand, at the Centenary Stadium, Birkirkara defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 2-0.
Alessandro Coppola put Birkirkara ahead on 16 minutes and Jere Vrcic doubled the score on 70 minutes.
In the quarter-finals, Birkirkara will be facing Zabbar St. Patrick.
