Melita and Pieta’ Hotspurs qualified for the quarter-finals of the BOV Challenge Cup after they registered wins at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Wednesday.
The Hotspurs defeated Swieqi United 1-0 thanks to a goal by Arthur Stelmach on 64 minutes.
On the other hand, Melita defeated Mgarr United 5-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
Cristhyan put Mgarr ahead on 11 minutes but Melita turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Jesus Yepez on 32 minutes and Kevin Moreno on 77 minutes. However, two minutes in added time, Cristhyan levelled matters to force extra-time.
In the penalty shootout, Jesus Yepez, Benjamin Cassar, Karl Mohnani, Gareth Barone and Quadri Olanshile Allionida scored for Melita while Cristhyan, Kyle Frendo and Matthew Mifsud scored for Mgarr with Daniel Sant failing to score.
