Meridianbet FA Trophy: Valletta, Naxxar through after extra-time as Birkirkara edge past Zabbar

Birkirkara, Naxxar Lions and Valletta joined Gzira United in the semi-finals of the Meridianbet FA Trophy as they remaining quarter-finals were played on Wednesday.

In the semi-finals scheduled for April 4, Gzira United face Naxxar Lions while Valletta cross swords with Birkirkara.

Valletta eliminated Hamrun Spartans 3-1 after extra-time. Yannick Yankam put the Citizens ahead on the half hour but Mouad El Fanis equalised seven minutes later. The match went into extra-time and goals by Stijn Meijer on 115 minutes and Brandon Paiber on 127 minutes put Valletta through to the semi-finals. 

At the Centenary Stadium, Birkirkara came from behind to defeat Zabbar St. Patrick 2-1.

Following a goalless first half, Vinicius de Paiva put Zabbar ahead on 54 minutes but Kemar Reid levelled matters on 62 minutes and six minutes later, Macula notched the winner.

On the other hand, Naxxar Lions needed extra-time to beat Challenge League side Zurrieq 2-1 in another match at the Centenary Stadium. Vinicius Baiano put the Lions ahead on 7 minutes but Wyatt Jon Harding equalised on 74 minutes. However, Viitinho converted a penalty nine minutes in the second half of extra-time.
