Early goals pave the way for Switzerland win

Switzerland scored twice within the first ten minutes to register a 4-1 win over Malta in a match from Group B2 of the Women’s European Qualifiers at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

In fact, the visitors took the lead after just eight minutes thanks to Iman Beney whose shot from the edge of the area beat goalkeeper Giulia D’Antuono and two minutes later, Alisha Lehmann, served on the right, slotted the ball past the Malta goalkeeper to double the score.

The Maltese reacted well and on 20 minutes, pulled one back thanks to Maria Farrugia whose fine shot from the left beat goalkeeper Livia Peng. 

Six minutes from the end of the first half, Svenja Fölmli made it 3-0, beating D’Antuono following an assist by Schertenleib.

Substitute Aurélie Csillag hit the upright early in the second half but on 73 minutes, she scored the fourth goal, beating D’ Antuono from inside the area after receiving a through pass.
