BOV Challenge League: Sirens beat Fgura by odd goal in five

Sirens maintain alive hope of securing promotion as they defeated Fgura United 3-2 in a match from the BOV Challenge League at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Alan Schembri Wismayer put Sirens ahead on 43 minutes and Thiago Nonato doubled the score eleven minutes in the second half. Samuel Buhagiar reduced the gap two minutes later but Trezeguet Zammit made it 3-1 on the hour. Sergio Mosquera reduced the gap once again for Fgura on 88 minutes.

In the Top 8, Balzan lead the way with 41 points, followed by Birzebbuga and Swieqi on 39, Melita 38, Sirens 35, Fgura and Pieta’ 28 and St. Andrews 26.

In the Play-Out, Mgarr United and Vittoriosa Stars shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium Matthias Fenech put Mgarr ahead on 43 minutes but Shaun Carabott equalised on 75 minutes.

Zurrieq and Zebbug Rangers earned a point each in a 3-3 draw at the Centenary Stadium. Olalekan Qudus Opajobi put Zebbug ahead on 4 minutes. Sheldon Mackay equalised on the half hour and Isaac Joseph Chetcuti restored the lead for Zebbug on 34 minutes. Nathan Sultana extended the lead three minutes in the second half but goals by Sebastian Grech on 62 minutes and Leonard Londe on 85 minutes restored equilibrium.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, goals by Raul Formosa on 10 minutes, Shola Shodija on 28 minutes (penalty) and Joseph CHilaka Agbakwuru on 75 minutes handed Gudja United a 3-0 win over Mtarfa. 

Mgarr lead the way in the Play-Out with 32 points, followed by Gudja on 26, Santa Lucia 23, Zurrieq 21, Vittoriosa 18, Marsa and Zebbug 13, Mtarfa -2.
