BOV Amateur League II: Kalkara declared champions despite draw with Marsaskala

Kalkara United were declared champions of the BOV Amateur League II as they earned the point they needed in a 2-2 draw with Marsaskala at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Federico GAlea put Marsaskala ahead on 2 minutes but Kalkara turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Jean Claude Annati on 39 minutes and Owen GAuci just before the end of the first half. However five minutes from time, Jamiu Temilola Hassan equalised for Marsasala. 

Dingli Swallows remained second thanks to a most comfortable 6-0 win over Sta. Venera Lightnings at the Centenary Stadium. Jurgen Gerada put Dingli ahead on 14 minutes and Mark Cutajar doubled the score on 32 minutes. Ronaldinho Daley scored twice on 38 and 41 minutes and Gabriel Sant made it 5-0 just before half time. Luke Calleja extended the lead on 77 minutes. 

Thomas Grima notched a hat-trick as Msida St. Joseph defeated Siggiewi 3-1 at the Luxol Stadium. Grima scored twice on 6 and 18 minutes before converting a penalty on 25 minutes. Juan Artiaga pulled one back on 82 minutes. 

Giovanni Galea scored twice for Mdina Knights as they defeated Rabat Ajax 3-1. Galea put Mdina ahead on 24 minutes. Jamie Lee Micallef doubled the score on 29 minutes before Galea made it 3-0 four minutes in the second half. Rabat scored a consolation goal through Zachary Tanti  eleven minutes from time. 

Ta’ Xbiex also beat Ghaxaq 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Neil Borg opened the score on 43 minutes and an own goal enabled them to double the score. Clive Fenech reduced the gap on the hour but Vitor Hugo made it 3-1 five minutes from time.  

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, goals by Mark Bonello Ghio on 52 minutes and a Max Kirkbride penalty four minutes from time handed Gharghur a 2-0 win over St. George’s.

Kalkara lead the way with 50 points, followed by Dingli on 43, Msida 42, Mdina 41, Ta’ Xbiex 37, Siggiewi 29, St. George’s 24, Rabat 23, Gharghur 17, Marsaskala 14, Ghaxaq 11 and Sta. Venera 8.
