Balzan moved four points clear on top the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 3-0 in a top-of-the-table clash at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday.
Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya converted a penalty on 20 minutes and Gabriel Santos converted another penalty on 58 minutes to double the score. Stephen Gabriel Chiemezie sealed the issue with a third goal on 72 minutes.
Melita were held in a 2-2 draw by Santa Lucia at the Centenary Stadium. Adrian Borg put Santa Lucia ahead on 35 minutes and although Andreas Vella equalised on 76 minutes, Filip Petkovski restored the lead for Santa Lucia five minutes later. However, Quadri Olanshile Allionida levelled matters one minute from time.
Thiago Nonato scored four Sirens registered a fine 5-1 win over Fgura United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Nonato put Sirens ahead on 5 minutes and although Timilehin Caleb Akande equalised on 15 minutes, Nonato scored again on 57 minutes, converted a penalty on 70 minutes and scoring another on 84 minutes with Hafiz Mohammed Akadom making it 5-1 two minutes from time.
Zurrieq rescued a point in a 1-1 draw with Mgarr United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Mgarr took the lead thanks to a goal by Matthias Fenech on 47 minutes but Jonathan Monney equalised seven minutes from time.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, St, Andrews and Vittoriosa Stars earned a point each in a 3-3 draw. Cauã put St. Andrews ahead on 12 minutes and Mattia Galliano doubled the score on 27 minutes. Shaun Carabott reduced the gap for Vittoriosa on 54 minutes and Samuel Boakye equalised on 69 minutes. St. Andrews restored the lead thanks to a Cauã penalty five minutes later but Isaiah Micallef equalised seven minutes in added time.
Balzan lead the way with 32 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 28, Melita 26, Sirens and Swieqi 23, Fgura 22, Mgarr and Gudja 21, St. Andrews 20, Pieta’ 18, Santa Lucia 15, Zurrieq 14, Vittoriosa 11, Marsa 7, Zebbug 5 and Mtarfa -2.
