Kercem Ajax, SK Victoria Wanderers and Xewkija Tigers joined Xaghra United in the quarter-finals of the BOV Challenge Cup after registering wins in Round 1 this weekend. Xaghra United, on the other hand, had been awarded a bye.
Kercem Ajax defeated Qala Saints 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
Ibrahim Mohammed put Qala ahead on 16 minutes and Romulo Bosquerio equalised on 73 minutes.
In the penalty shoot-out, Nenem, Gianluca Muscat, Eduardo Coimbra and Lorenzo Atzori scored for Kercem with Romulo Bosquerio being saved. On the other hand, Gabriel Cardona and Jordi Parnis scored for Qala with Joseph Zammit hitting the woodwork and Sergipe hitting high.
A goal by Brian Alejandro Parada seven minutes from time handed Xewkija Tigers a narrow win over Nadur Youngsters.
On the other hand, SK Victoria Wanderers defeated Ghajnsielem 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Deison Arvey Cuero put the Blacks ahead five minutes into the second half but Matthias Cordina equalised eight minutes from time.
In the penalty shoot-out, Ender Vielma, Andre Cutler, Mustafa Amodu, Owen Fenech and Kurt Grima scored with the penalties by Matthias Cordina and Emerson Zammit both saved. On the other hand, Jhon Gonzalez, Naim Ibrahim Belhadj, Deison Cuero and James Tabone Refalo scored with Daniel Murillo and Paul Papa’s penalties being saved and Alberto Xuereb hitting wide.
These four Gozitan teams will be joining four teams from the BOV Challenge League which emerge as winners in this week’s matches from Round 2.
