Swieqi United and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s moved top in the BOV Challenge League Top 8 as they both registered wins on Saturday.
Swieqi hit five past neighbours Melita at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Augusto Caseres put Swieqi ahead on 2 minutes and Kian Leonardi converted a penalty on the half-hour. Caseres added another on 57 minutes before Daniel Agius and Salam Kojo Mawuena added another two goals on 65 and 67 minutes.
On the other hand, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated St. Andrews 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Daniel Zerafa put St. Andrews ahead on 3 minutes and ten minutes later, Paul Lapira doubled the score. Duvan Mosquera made it 3-0 five minutes from the end of the first half but six minutes in the second half, Elizeu converted a penalty to reduce the gap for St. Andrews.
Swieqi and Birzebbuga lead with 42 pints, followed by Balzan on 41, Melita 38, Sirens 35, Pieta’ 31, Fgura 28 and St. Andrews 26.
In the Bottom 6, Zebbug Rangers registered an important win in the battle against relegation as they defeated Gudja United 2-1 at the Centenary Stadium. Olakekan Qudus Opajobi put Zebbug ahead on 6 minutes and although Veljko Tasic equalised on 15 minutes, Opajobi scored again on 56 minutes.
On the other hand, at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, second half goals by Bjorn Caruana on 54 minutes, Arthur Stelmach on 65 minutes, James Brincat on 75 minutes and Lecao on 80 minutes handed Pieta’ Hotspurs a 4-0 win over Fgura United.
Mgarr lead with 32 points, followed by Gudja on 26, Zurrieq 24, Santa Lucia 23, Vittoriosa 21, Zebbug 16, Marsa 13 and Mtarfa -2.
