Zach Muscat joins Birkirkara

Birkirkara secured the services of thirty two year old Malta international defender Zach Muscat.

A product of Pietà Hotspurs, Muscat joined Birkirkara in 2012. His first experience abroad was with Akragas, joining them in January 2016. The following season, he moved to Arezzo where he spent two years, helping his team avoid relegation despite the club’s financial troubles. In 2018, he joined Pistoiese, signing a two-year deal but moved to SC Olhanense the following season. Muscat then moved to Casa Pia in 2020 with whom he won promotion to the top division but in 2022, he joined SC Farense with whom he won promotion and eventually played in the Primeira Liga. In February 2025, he joined Şanlıurfaspor in the Turkish second division and last summer returned to Portugal to join GD Chaves in the Portuguese second division.

The Stripes, who have confirmed Paul Zammit as coach, had earlier announced the signing of Jefferson Vinicius, Rafa Santos, Aleandro Garzia and Jake Vassallo and confirmed that Shaun Dimech, Leandro Lacunza, Alessandro Coppola, Manuel Morello, Fran Lopez, Luis Cordova, Roni Santos, Geoffrey Acheampong, Donovan Makoma, Sebastian Viveros, Jacques Bayo and Jere Vrcic left the club or were released.
