Malta Head Coach Emilio De Leo has named a provisional 29-player squad for the upcoming international window, which will see Malta play four matches over an extended period as the team opens its 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign.
Malta will compete in League D, having been drawn in Group D1 alongside Andorra and Gibraltar. The national team will kick off its Nations League campaign away to Andorra on Thursday 24 September, before returning home for three consecutive matches: an international friendly against Liechtenstein on Sunday 27 September, followed by the UEFA Nations League matches against Gibraltar on Thursday 1 October and Andorra on Sunday 4 October.

De Leo’s initial squad sees the inclusion of a new face in the senior team set-up, Jayden Roe. The 16-year-old midfielder, who plays for Hibernians FC, has progressed through Malta’s youth national teams and has represented the country at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 level. Born on 6 March 2010, Roe has also recently been involved with Hibernians’ senior side.
There is also a return for Ħamrun Spartans player Ryan Camenzuli, who missed the June international window through injury. On the other hand, Birkirkara’s Aleandro Garzia is unavailable due to injury while Hibernians’ versatile player Joseph Mbong must serve a one-match ban in the UEFA Nations League opener against Andorra.
Thursday’s encounter away to Andorra will mark Malta’s first official outing of the 2026-27 season. During the last international window, in June, the national team played two friendly matches, recording an uplifting 2-0 victory over Azerbaijan in Hungary after suffering a last-minute 2-1 defeat against Slovakia in their opening match, played in Dunajská Streda.
