Marsaxlokk FC elect committee during EGM

After days of uncertainty, Marsaxlokk FC will be taking part in the BOV Third Division after a committee was elected during an Extraordinary General Meeting which was held on Friday at the Marsaxlokk FC training ground.

MFA Vice-President Dr Chris Bonnett presided over the meeting where he explained that the MFA Member Status Committee, who took over the club’s administration for the past couple of weeks after the club failed to submit the list of committee members in accordance with MFA regulations, will be advising the Council to recognise the new committee as the committee for season 2015/16.

In the next two months, a new statute has be be presented by the club and the accounts have to be approved by its members in order to avoid having the same situation repeating itself.

The Malta Football Association is satisfied with the outcome of the Extraordinary General Meeting, for which there were around fifty members, and believed this could be a new beginning for the club which less than ten years ago was celebrating the Premier League championship.

Through the Member Status Committee, led by Dr. Bonett, the MFA will continue to monitor the situation so that the club could build on strong foundations.

Frank Cachia was elected as president, Royin Grech and Vincent Grech vice-presidents with the latter also serving as nursery chairman, Joseph Mifsud as secretary, Nikos Karamitsios as treasurer, Cedric Baldacchino as MFA Council Member and Daniel Zerafa as PRO. The other members of the committee are Frank Buhagiar, Adrian Baldacchino, Saviour Bonnici and Laurence Camilleri.

Meanwhile in a statement, Marsaxlokk FC announced that the new committee was elected after two months of long internal debates and discussions following the dissolution of the committee which ended with the former president requesting in writing the dissolution of the club.

The club stated that most of the new eleven-member committee hail from Marsaxlokk. The committee has to call a general meeting within two months time to present the real financial situation of the club. A new statute also has to be approved.

In the meantime, the club will make sure the senior team will compete in the competitions organised by the MFA and that the nursery continues its programme.

The committee expressed its gratitude to the new club members who intervened to help the club in a much critical moment and showed its appreciation towards Dr Chris Bonnett for shouldering the responsibility of taking over the club’s administration until the new committee was elected.
