Hamrun Spartans present new signings

On the eve of their return to the BOV Premier League, Hamrun Spartans presented their new signings during a press conference which was held at the EuroSport store in Birkirkara.
Hamrun Spartans president Daniel Sullivan said that after the club was relegated to Division 1, Sylvano Comvalius was transferred to Birkirkara while Zoran Levnajic and Florin Anton were released. Steve Meilak, Kevin Borg and Ryan Fenech were loaned to Qormi, Dingli Swallows and Sliema Wanderers respectively.
Sullivan said that after being appointed as president, he put as his main objective that of a quick return to the Premier League. However with the club being re-instated in the BOV Premier League, the new target will be that of retaining their status in the top division.
The team was strengthened with the signing of Jonathan Holland from Birkirkara, Clyde Camoin from Floriana, Mark Barbara from Valletta, Timothy Fleri Soler from Hibernians and Luca Grech from Mgarr United. The Spartans signed two foreigners – Brazilian striker Marcelo Pereira, formerly of Mqabba and Marsaxlokk, and Czech defender Martin Hrubsa, who had started the season with Vittoriosa Stars. They could also sign a third foreigner with a player from Belgium and another from Germany currently on trial with the club.
The Hamrun president said that returning to the Premier League is a very interesting and important adventure for the club. Sullivan believes the players will be able to show that they deserve playing in the top division.
Team manager Stefan Sultana said that after the club was relegated to Division 1 at the end of last season, Hamrun aimed to strengthen the team for the First Division campaign as the club had already experienced such a challenge. However with the re-instatement of the club in the Premier League, he said he believed the club needed another two good foreigners in order to be able to take up this new challenge.
Sultana said Hamrun will be aiming for a top-six finish saying he believed that besides the top four, six teams in the Premier League were more or less on the same level.
Rupert Mangion will be the team captain while Gaetan Spiteri will be vice-captain.
