Pietà Hotspurs Youth Nursery organized its first Football Festival for girls under the age of sixteen. Everyone present must have felt that female football in Malta has a bright future ahead, upon watching seven Under-16 girls’ teams producing good quality football for three whole hours. Around eighty girls participated in this festival.
Pietà Hotspurs Youth Nursery would like to thank all participating clubs namely: Birkirkara, Hibernians, Lija/Iklin, Mgarr United, Pembroke Athleta together with two teams representing Pietà Hotspurs.
An interesting rule in this tournament was the three-goal rule where a team losing by a three-goal difference was allowed to add another player in the pitch, in order to prevent teams from suffering unnecessary humiliation in big defeats which might discourage girls from continuing to try very hard.
This produced the desired effect as only 3 out of 21 matches ended with results of more than a four-goal margin.
No standings and winners were issued in this tournament. A very positive aspect too was that in the twenty-one matches played not even a single yellow card was given.
