Malta will be facing Germany in a friendly match on Thursday May 13 as part of the latter’s preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup which kicks-off a month later in South Africa.
The game against Malta is one of a number of friendlies which the team led by coach Joachim Loew shall be playing before leaving to South Africa where they have been drawn in Group D together with Australia, Serbia and Ghana.
Germany secured a place in South Africa after winning Group 4 with 26 points, dropping their only points in two draws with Finland. The group included runners-up Russia, Finland, Wales, Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein.
The last time Malta and Germany met was in a friendly match prior to the EURO 2004, On that occasion, Germany registered a 7-0 win.
Meanwhile with the Malta national team travelling to Germany, a change in fixtures was necessary as the U*BET FA Trophy semi-finals were due to be played on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 May. These games were shifted by one week and will now be played on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18. The final will be played on Sunday 23.
