Qormi FC vs Floriana FC 6-2 (HT 3-1)
Camilo Da Silva Sanvezzo was once again the hero for Qormi as the latter recovered well from the defeat to Birkirkara to beat Floriana 6-2. A win which puts Qormi temporarily in first place.
Jesmond Zerafa and Vince Carbonaro had the full squad at their disposal. Floriana, on the other hand, had Orosco Anonam leading the team as player-coach following the departure of Irish coach Roddy Collins. Goalkeeper Jurgen Micallef replaced the injured Bernard Paris.
Camilo put Qormi ahead after 12 minutes when he headed the ball home off a Ramon Dos Santos freekick but Floriana levelled matters ten minutes later thanks to a goal by Ryan Darmanin whose header beat Matthew Farrugia.
Qormi regained the lead on 33 minutes with a great header by Camilo off a cross by Ryan Deguara and two mintues later, the same Brazilian striker placed the ball at the back of the net to make it 3-1.
Two minutes in the second half, a Ryan Deguara effort was not held by Jurgen Micallef and Alfred Effiong placed the ball at the back of the net off the rebound. Then on 58 minutes, Alfred Effiong sent Camilo through and the latter beat the Floriana custodian with a low shot.
On 79 minutes, Ryan Darmanin scored a second goal for Floriana but nine minutes from time, Joseph Farrugia converted a penalty to make it 6-2 after a foul by Julian Briffa on Camilo Da Silva Sanvezzo.
In added time, Qormi were awarded another penalty after Meilak was floored down inside the area. Julian Briffa was sent off and substitute Joseph Chetcuti’s weak effort from the penalty spot was neutralised by the Floriana custodian.
