Sole leadership will be at stake as Vittoriosa Stars take on Marsaxlokk in a top-of-the-table clash in the BOV First Division at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Monday.
Both sides are currently leading the table with 13 points, one ahead of Balzan Youths. They won four matches and drew one.
They both had started the season in the Premier League but following their demotion, Marsaxlokk impressed immediately in the Maltco Lotteries First Division Knock-Out, winning the four matches. Vittoriosa, on the other hand, won just one game. In the U*BET FA Trophy, Marsaxlokk reached the second round and Vittoriosa were only eliminated on penalties by Premier side Dingli. Both sides reached the National League 100 Anniversary Cup fourth round.
When the BOV First Division League kicked-off, Marsaxlokk won the first four matches against Melita, St. Patrick, Mosta and Pietà but were then held in a 1-1 draw by Balzan last week. On the other hand, Vittoriosa defeated Mqabba, St. George’s and Melita. They were held in a draw by Pietà but bounced back with a win over St. Patrick.
Meanwhile Balzan earned a point in a 2-2 draw against Mosta despite ending in ten men. The latter are fourth on 9 points, followed by St. George’s on 7, St. Patrick and Melita on 6.
St. George’s and St. Patrick both returned to winning ways as they defeated Melita 1-0 and San Gwann 1-0 respectively.
Pietà Hotspurs joined Mqabba on five points after beating them 3-1, leaving San Gwann at the bottom of the table with four points.
