National League 100 Anniversary Cup: Hibs drawn with Valletta

Champions Hibernians were drawn with Valletta in the quarter-finals of the National League 100 Anniversary Cup. The draw was held during the programme MFA Magazine on Smash Television.

The Paolites reached this stage after beating Qormi on penalties and Marsaxlokk 3-0. The Citizens defeated Gozo FC 7-0 and Vittoriosa Stars 3-0.

Floriana were drawn with Hamrun Spartans while the other two Premier clubs were paired with teams from lower divisions. Tarxien Rainbows will face Second Division side Lija Athletic while First Division side Mosta take on Sliema Wanderers.

Floriana had defeated Mqabba 2-0 and Melita 1-0. Hamrun beat St. George’s 3-0 and Mellieha 4-1.

Tarxien registered comfortable wins – 5-0 over Msida and 5-1 over Balzan. Lija had the longest way, defeating Gzira 2-1, Birzebbuga 1-0 and Naxxar 3-1.

Mosta beat Siggiewi 3-1 and Gharghur 4-1 while Sliema beat San Gwann 2-0 and St. Patrick 4-1.

The quarter-finals will be played on February 10.

Meamwhile the draw of the semi-finals of the quick-Keno Second & Third Division Knock-Out was also heldon Thursday.

Gharghur will be facing Senglea Athletic while Third Division side Zejtun Corinthians meet Mellieha.

After winning Group 8 which included St. Venera and Naxxar, Zejtun eliminated Lija Athletic 2-0 after extra-time. Mellieha won Group 6 which included Kalkara, Marsa and Xghajra and then defeated Zebbug 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

Before beating Luqa 4-1, Gharghur won the group which included Fgura, Sta. Lucia and Qrendi. Senglea, on the other hand, won a group which included Pembroke, Siggiewi and St. Andrews, defeating Ghaxaq 3-2 in the quarter-finals.
