Valletta seek win to maintain pressure on Birkirkara

Valletta will be aiming for the three points as they take on Qormi on Thursday in their bid to maintain hopes of securing the twentieth league championship in the history of the club.

Lying four points behind leaders Birkirkara, the Citizens need the three points and hope that Birkirkara fail to beat Tarxien on Friday so that the final clash between Valletta and Birkirkara on Wednesday would decide which way the title would go.

Valletta are coming from three wins in their last three outings and having beaten Qormi already three times this season – 2-0, 1-0 and 3-0, they start as firm favourites to claim the three points from Thursday’s game.

Qormi are currently sharing the third place together with Sliema Wanderers and are therefore keen to earn points from this game although they suffered two defeats in their last two outings, losing 1-3 to Birkirkara and 2-3 to Tarxien.

With team manager Jesmond Zerafa reportedly quitting the club, coach Vince Carbonaro is expected to lead the team in the two remaining Championship Pool matches and the U*BET FA Trophy.

Camilo Da Silva Sanvezzo and Stefan Giglio are unavailable for selection after both collected a fourth yellow card during the weekend. Also ruled out from this game is Valletta defender Luke Dimech.
