Champions Birkirkara take on Valletta in final league game

The BOV Premier League will come to an end this evening as champions Birkirkara face rivals Valletta in the final league match.

The narrow 1-0 win over Tarxien Rainbows enabled the Stripes to secure the third Premier League title in eleven years after they moved four points clear. This win also enabled Paul Zammit’s side to extend its unbeaten streak to eleven matches.

After missing out on the title, Valletta’s main objective is the U*BET FA Trophy but they will definitely do their best to upset the Stripes on Wednesday. They are coming from a series of five successive wins.

This will be sixth clash between the two teams this season. Valletta beat Birkirkara 2-0 in the Euro Cup and 3-1 in the first game from the BOV Premier League. In the second round, the two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Birkirkara beat Valletta 1-0 in the last game from the third round but a week later, the Citizens eliminated the Stripes from the FA Trophy beating them 3-1.

After the game, the newly-crowned champions will be presented with the BOV Premier League cup by MFA president Dr Joe Mifsud.
