Another three Brazilian players for Tarxien Rainbows

Tarxien Rainbows are set to confirm their foreign line-up with the signing of another three Brazian players besides defender Everton Antonio Pereira who starts his second season at the club. The three new players are midfielder Sergio Pacheco de Oliveira and strikers Ricardo Mion Varella Costa and Cristiano dos Santos Rodrigues.

Twenty-nine year old Sergio started his career in Brazil before moving to Holland where he joined NAC Breda. With the latter, he won the Second Division championship in season 1999/2000. In 2002, he moved to another Dutch club Roda JC. The attacking midfielder left the club in summer 2006 joining Ukrainian side Metallurg Donetsk. Two years later, he was transferred to Sivasspor in Turkey.

Like Sergio, twenty-nine year old Cristiano dos Santos Rodrigues also played in Holland for NAC Breda and Roda JC. After eight years in the Netherlands, Cristiano sought a new challenge in a foreign country and jumped at the opportunity to join Swiss giants FC Basel. Cristiano struggled to command a regular starting spot and went on loan back to Holland with Willem II. His loan spell was a successful one and Willem II made Cristiano’s move permanent at the end of season 2006–07. One year later, Cristiano moved to Australia to join A-League side Adelaide United.

On the other hand, Ricardo Costa started his career in SC Corinthians Paulista before moving to Europe to join Örebro SK. After two years in Sweden, he joined C.D. Leganes in Spain. In season 2006/07, he joined F.C. Winterthur in Switzerland. The following season, he returned to Brazil to join Grêmio Barueri but in January, he was transferred to Veria F.C. in Greece. Ricardo joined Korean giants Daejeon Citizen in 2009 but returned to Brazil a few months later.
