Group 2 of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2013 Preliminary Round mini-tournament comes to an end on Tuesday with the last two matches as Malta takes on Armenia and Georgia face the Faroe Islands.
Since the two matches are now decisive, the two games will be played at the same time. Malta vs Armenia will be played at the Centenary Stadium and Georgia vs Faroe Islands at the National Stadium, kick-off at 14:00.
Armenia lead the way with four points, followed by the Faroe Islands and Malta on 3 and Georgia on 1.
Malta has to beat Armenia and hope that the Faroe Islands fail to beat Georgia in order to win the group and reach the qualifying group stage.
According to the competition’s regulations, if two or more teams are equal on points on completion of a mini-tournament, their position within the group is established according to the following criteria, in the order given:
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played between the teams in question;
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played between the teams in question;
c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played between the teams in question.
Therefore if both Malta and the Faroe Islands win, the latter will win the group due to their 2-0 win in the direct encounter last Saturday. In their first game, Malta had defeated Georgia 1-0.
