Southseasiders hope to extend positive run

Marsaxlokk will be hoping to extend their unbeaten record to ten matches as they take on Birkirkara in a clash from the BOV Premier League Championship Pool on Saturday.

The Southseasiders won four and shared the spoils in the other five matches and are now third on nineteen points, one behind second-placed Floriana and one ahead of Birkirkara. A win would therefore put them in second place on 22 points although the Greens would have the game against Valletta in hand.

Patrick Curmi’s side has already defeated Birkirkara twice this season – 5-2 and 2-0. In their last outing, they defeated Tarxien 1-0.

Birkirkara, on the other hand, are coming from a 0-1 defeat to leaders Valletta. They collected five points from the last five matches. A win is a must for the Stripes in order to move back in second place.

No players are suspended with Florent Raimy returning for Marsaxlokk after serving a one-match ban.

Meanwhile in the first match, Vittoriosa Stars take on Sliema Wanderers.

Another defeat on Saturday would almost condemn the Stars to a quick return to Division 1. They are currently lying at the bottom of the table with six points, eight behind Sliema and Qormi.

On the other hand, should they beat Vittoriosa, Sliema would secure their Premier League status. The Wanderers are eager to return to winning ways after losing to Hibernians in their last outing. They have already defeated them twice this season – 1-0 and 4-3.
