BOV Third Division Section B leaders Gharghur secured promotion to the Second Division after Pembroke Athleta suffered a 0-4 defeat to Fgura United on Monday.

A defeat which dented Athleta’s hopes of automatic promotion to Division 2.

Gharghur lead the way with 35 points, followed by Luqa St. Andrew’s on 28 and Kirkop United on 26.

In another match, Sirens defeated Marsa 2-1.

Pembroke are fourth on 23, followed by Fgura on 21, Sirens 20, Ghaxaq 19, Marsa 14, Gozo 13 and Kalkara 8.

Meanwhile in Section A, Attard moved closer to securing third place after defeating Marsaskala 7-2. In another match, Xghajra Tornados beat Santa Lucia 2-0.

Sta. Venera lead the way with 40 points, followed by Siggiewi on 37, Gudja 36, Attard 30, Mdina 26, Santa Lucia 23, Swieqi 19, Xghajra 14, Mtarfa 11, Marsaskala 9 and Qrendi 7.

The top three teams in each section are promoted to Division 2 while seventh team to be promoted will be decided through a play-off between the teams placing fourth in the two sections.
