Mdina Knights Soccer School 2011/ 2012 launched

Mdina Knights Football Club is pleased to announce that, following positive results for the first Mdina Knights Soccer School organised throughout the 2010/2011 football season, the Club has decided to repeat the initiative throughout the 2011/2012 season.

Last season saw two players from the Soccer School make the grade as first team players. Both Luke Busuttil and Jeffrey Ferriggi made appearances in the BOV 3rd Division, with Luke Busuttil becoming the youngest player to have made an appearance in MKFC’s history, and also becoming the youngest ever scorer in the process. His improvement did not go un-noticed, with several clubs, Premier Division included, showing an interest in the 17 year old.

This year, the Mdina Knights Soccer School will be expanding and will have the pleasure of welcoming amongst its ranks players between the ages of 8-11, 12–15 and 16+. Following the Club’s affiliation with the Malta University Sports Club, University students attending the Mdina Knights Soccer School will be also eligible to play for the Malta University Football Team.

Led personally by Technical Director Eric Schembri, an ex-Malta international who has earned a reputation for bringing the best out of young footballers, the Soccer School has first class facilities and equipment at San Anton School and more importantly offers a fantastic environment where you can improve your football skills, make friends and above all have fun! Eric Schembri, father of Maltese International player Andre’ Schembri, has several years of experience in coaching youth team players, developing footballers who are now even participating in foreign leagues.

Andre’ Schembri, currently plying his trade with Olympiakos Volos in the Greek Super League, saw for himself how the Mdina Knights Soccer School is run during a visit to Malta last season, and explained that he would recommend the School to players who would like to resurrect their interest in football and to start enjoying playing the beautiful game. He also stated his intent to visit the Soccer School when visiting Malta, and to participate in various sessions.

This year the club has also taken on a new initiative to guide all young players with regards to their diet and fitness regime which is essential in the development of any young and aspiring football player.
