Gzira United strengthen squad

Second Division side Gzira United strengthened their squad with the signing of no less than thirteen players and appointing a new coach.

The Maroons, who have appointed Joe Grech as coach, assisted by team manager Tony Borg, have secured the services of Simon Agius, Kevin Cassar, Arnold Buttigieg, Sharlon Pace, Rudi Gulite Goncalves Alhino, Anthony Ewurum, Simon Shead, Philip Camilleri, Jesmond Azzopardi, Ryan Deguara, Karl Saliba, Alan Spiteri and Luke Attard.

Club secretary Tyrone Demanuele said the club’s main objective will be that of winning promotion to Division 1. Following a disappointing season, the club felt it had to strengthen the squad in order to be able to challenge for honours.

Demanuele expressed his satisfaction that although Gzira were a small club, they managed to convince established players to join the club. He stressed that however, only hard work and unity among the players could enable the club to reach its targets.

Coach Joe Grech agreed and said that he believes Gizra had a team which was good enough to give any other team a hard time. He said the season was long and teamwork was necessary in order to make up for injuries and suspensions.
