Spartans seek to extend Relegation Pool unbeaten run

Precious points will be at stake on Monday as Tarxien Rainbows face Hamrun Spartans and Qormi meet Mqabba in two Relegation Pool clashes at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

In the first match, Hamrun seek to extend their unbeaten run in the Relegation Pool with another positive result as they take on Tarxien Rainbows. The Spartans held Mosta in a draw and then defeated Marsaxlokk and Qormi.

Tarxien, on the other hand, bounced back from the defeat to Qormi with a fine 2-0 win over Mosta last week. They now lie just two points behind the Spartans.

For Tarxien, Orosco Anonam should be back after recovering from an injury. Hamrun Spartans defender Steve Bonnici is ruled out through suspension.

Hamrun defeated Tarxien 3-1 in the second round after a 1-1 draw in the first round.

Meanwhile in the second match, Qormi take on Mqabba.

After defeating Mosta and Marsaxlokk in their last two outings, Mqabba will aim for another positive result which would put them closer to safety.

Qormi lost two of the three Relegation Pool matches and are coming from a defeat to rivals Hamrun in their last outing. They started the Relegation Pool on top but after playing three matches, just five points separate them from the team lying second from bottom.

Mqabba coach Clive Mizzi welcomes back Marko Potezica and John Nwoba but defender Julian Briffa is ruled out as he serves a one-match ban.

Mqabba and Qormi registered a win each – 1-0 for Mqabba in the first round and 4-1 for Qormi in the second round.
